'The Real Happy Valley' author on why compassion is more important than strength in the police force.
Alice has explored the real stories from the female police officers on the frontline of Yorkshire's police force, the setting of the hit ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ drama Happy Valley.
During her time in the Met Police, the question of whether women are strong or brutish enough to be a police officer was brought up a lot.
Yet Alice said that "kindness and compassion" are the most important qualities in an officer.
Speaking to ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 5 Live's Naga Munchetty, Alice said: "You can be as strong or as brave as you like, but you need to be kind, you need to care for these people."
Alice pointed to a family liaison officer, who's included in the book, who was determined to bring the voice of a murder victim to court and push for a conviction.
