COP 28 presidency: ‘We shouldn’t have polluters in charge’
Bristol based climate activist Tori Tsui has said she's not attending the climate summit in Dubai, because of controversy over its precedency.
Dr Sultan Al Jaber is leading this year's climate talks but is also the boss of one of the world's largest oil companies, ADNOC.
He's denied that the UAE will use COP28 to promote business interests after the ѿý uncovered plans for the hosts to discuss fossil fuel deals with 15 nations.
Tori, who's 30 and recently appeared on the front cover of Vogue with the grammy award winner Billie Eilish told Radio 5 Live:
“When I see the presidency deeply embedded in the oil and gas industry, that’s immediately a red flag”.
Tori explained she has hope in the “organisers on the ground who will call them out for their entanglement with the oil and gas industry”.
“We shouldn’t have polluters and perpetrators in charge of these procedures.”
