Future of Birkenhead market in doubt
There has been a market building in Birkenhead since 1835 - it's moved several times and has been in its current location since 1977.
Leaked emails now suggest Wirral Council’s regeneration chief put the brakes on major plans to deliver a brand new market for Birkenhead months before it was public.
It appears proposals for a new market have been increasing substantially in cost, and could be paused while other options are considered.
Wirral Council say more details on a decision will be made shortly.
