The East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) is withdrawing from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) just over a year after it was deployed there to support peace efforts in the country's conflict-ridden east.

The withdrawal of Kenyan troops has already started with the force's mandate expiring 8 December. A force from the Southern African Development Community is due to replace it, but a date for that has not been confirmed.

Nearly 7 million people are displaced with many living in camps, according to the United Nations. So where does this leave the security of people in the east of the DR Congo?

Photo journalist Hugh Kinsella Cunningham has been in the camps surrounding the city of Goma and spoke to some of those seeking safety.
