Senior staff and the political leadership at Leicester City Council are preparing for effective bankruptcy in little over a year's time.

It's now two weeks since Nottingham City Council issued a section 114 notice - declaring it had run out of money and would have to halt most new spending. It's drawn up a list of services that face closure and is preparing to cut around 500 posts.

A government Spokesperson has told us that they "have made an extra 拢5.1 billion of funding available to local authorities in the last financial year worth an additional 9.4% in cash terms to budgets.
