‘We have a doula and a midwife for birth, we should have a death doula’
Dame Esther Rantzen, who has stage four lung cancer, joined Dignitas – the assisted dying clinic in Switzerland.
She is currently receiving a “miracle” treatment but is considering assisted dying if her condition gets worse.
Dame Esther’s daughter, Rebecca Wilcox, told 5 Live’s Naga Munchetty that “we’re giving women autonomy on how to give birth, I think the same should be done for death”.
Rebecca added: “I have the silence surrounding death.”
“We should respect death and respect people’s choices around it.”
