Sudan war: 'fuelled from the outside'

The Norwegian Ambassador in Sudan, Endre Stiansen, has warned that the situation in Sudan is a 'catastrophe and can get a lot worse.' He said the war is to a large extent 'fuelled from the outside' and that is prolonging and intensifying it. The weaponry being used 'is different from when the war started and Sudan does not produce these weapons inside the country.' He added we are trying to stop the flow of arms and countries in the region and elsewhere should do more. He said he is 'hoping for a clear statement on this from the UN security Council before Christmas.' The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces entered the city of Wad Madani this week. The city had been a safe haven for half a million people who took shelter there since the conflict began in April. As many as 300,000 have already fled so far. There are reports of dozens, possibly hundreds of people killed in Wad Madani.
