Liverpool's Junior Doctors: Why we are striking
The longest strike in the history of the NHS begins on Merseyside and across England.
Thousands of junior doctors - who make up nearly half the doctor workforce - are starting their six-day walkout.
It falls during one of the busiest times of the year for the health service, because of staff sickness and higher rates of illness like flu and Covid.
The walkout follows the breakdown of pay talks last month between the government and the British Medical Association.
