Sean Dilley: ‘I now don't think twice about going out my front door.’

ѿý News Correspondent Sean Dilley spoke to 5 Live Breakfast about the impact his new guide dog Shawn has had on his life.

‘I now don’t think twice about going out my front door.’

Sean is blind and has had guide dogs since 1999.

He said having a guide dog allows him to be out walking at his “usual fast pace” and makes working a lot easier.

“When I get into the office, with a cane you feel like you’ve worked nearly a whole shift.”

Following the pandemic, the charity Guide Dogs launched a recruitment campaign to cope with a shortage of volunteers to raise guide dog puppies.

The campaign was a success, and Sean was one of the people to benefit.

It takes time to train the dogs and for a bond to form between dog and owner. Sean said the relationship is all about trust.

“We’re a real partnership and we’re working at it together.”
