Steenkamp family 'did not object' to Pistorius release
The former Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius has been released from prison after serving eight and half years of a fifteen-year sentence for murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. He's on parole and there are strict conditions until his sentence runs out in 2029, including attending programmes on gender-based violence and anger management.
The Steenkamp family lawyer, Tania Koen, has been speaking to Newshour about why they have not objected to his release at this time. She says that Reeva's mother, June Steenkamp, has been preparing for his release for some time, but that she doesn't feel that the former Paralympian is truly remorseful or rehabilitated.
