Meet the father-daughter mental health nurses: 'You find a job you love, you'll never work a day in your life'
Steven and Stevie-Leigh Jewel have both qualified as mental health nurses.
Steven and Stevie-Leigh Jewel are a father and daughter who have both qualified as mental health nurses, just weeks apart. They now both work for the Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust, at Blackpool's Harbour Mental Health Hospital.
Steven told 5 Live he decided to retrain as a mental health nurse through the apprenticeship route, after deciding he needed a change from life as a greengrocer. Stevie-Leigh, on the other hand, opted for a university course. Both dad and daughter had struggled with mental health issues in the past, which influenced their decision to train in nursing so they could help others.
Speaking to 5 Live Drive's Tony Livesey, Stevie-Leigh said training at the same time as her father had boosted her ability to reflect on her placements, as she had someone she could compare with.
Her dad spoke of his love for the job, describing it as a "rollercoaster". He also admitted he goes to see Stevie-Leigh when they're both on shift, although this is "normally to steal things off her".
