Tilbury Ferry has uncertain future
Thurrock Council may not have the funds available to run a passenger ferry service between Tilbury and Gravesend after March 2024. There has been a crossing in operation between Essex and Kent on the River Thames since the 13th century, and since the year 2000 both Thurrock and Kent County Council have subsidised the ferry, but its future is now uncertain because Thurrock Council has debts of £1.5 billion.
