Martin Lewis urges people to check whether they’re eligible for bereavement payouts
A law change that came into force in February 2023 means that for the first time non-married parents can claim bereavement benefits too.
Martin Lewis urges people to check whether they are entitled to a backdated bereavement support payment or widowed parent’s allowance.
Speaking to ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 5 Live, he said: “If your partner died since 2001 and you’re not married, you had children and you were cohabiting, urgently check out whether you’re entitled to a backdated bereavement support payment or widowed parent’s allowance.â€
“After the 8th of February, you won’t be able to get the backdated claims.â€
