Record school truancy fines in Essex
More than 12,000 school truancy fines were issued by Essex County Council to parents in the last academic year, for taking their children out of school without permission. Becks is a mum of three who lives in Essex and says that she would would rather pay the fine than book a holiday outside of term when they are more expensive. Councillor Tony Ball is the Cabinet Member for Education Excellence, Lifelong Learning and Employability at Essex County Council and says parents have a legal duty to ensure their children attend school regularly.
