'Challenge' of shared spaces for visually impaired

Disability campaigners are urging Leicester City Council to remember the difficulties visually impaired people face when negotiating our city streets.

It comes as work gets underway in parts of Leicester city centre - with roads around Granby Street and Woodgate seeing the installation of wider footpaths and cycle lanes.

A Leicester City Council spokesperson said 'We are very mindful of the problems faced by people with disabilities using the city centre, and by creating a largely pedestrianised city centre, we have removed many of the hazards of the past while also introducing tactile and contrasting guide paving, talking bus stops and tapping bars and rails on street furniture.'

Kevin Ncube met up with the team at Vista, the charity which works with people with sight loss, to walk around the City Centre and find out the challenges shared spaces present to people with sight loss.
