The comedian Bill Bailey revealed how, when aged 18, he was banned from driving after a joke with the police went wrong.

Speaking to 5 Live's Nihal Arthanayake, Bill said how he was pulled over in his 2CV one day.

When asked for his registration, Bill thought to jokingly open the car's roof, slide down the bonnet and read his number plate upside down in front of the copper.

It was all fun and games until he was slapped with a six month driving ban.

"Well, you know, you're young - what are you supposed to do?", he said.

Bill was pleased this happened some time ago, jokingly adding: "It'll be all over the flipping six o'clock news if it was now, wouldn't it?
