Relative of Israeli hostage says his release would be a ‘comfort’ in a ‘living nightmare’

On 7th October Hamas kidnapped Eli Sharabi and killed his wife, Lianne, and their children

On 7th October Steve Brisley’s sister, Lianne Sharabi, and his two nieces, aged 16 and 13, were killed in their home in Kibbutz Be'eri.

Steve’s brother-in-law, Eli Sharabi, was also taken hostage along with Eli’s brother, Yosi, who died in captivity three weeks ago.

An estimated 240 people were taken hostage and 1,200 people were killed by Hamas during their attacks in Southern Israel on 7th October.

Negotiations for a deal which would see hostages returned is being discussed by Israel and Hamas.

Speaking to 5 Live Drive's Clare McDonnell about his brother-in-law, Steve said Eli is, “Well loved by all that know him, and everyone misses him so very very much.

“His safe release would be the one crumb of comfort from what has been a living nightmare for his entire family”.

Steve is focusing on securing Eli’s release so has ‘boxed away’ his grief for his sister and nieces.

“As soon as we found out that Eli was hostage, I’ve essentially pushed down my grief.

“I still look at my phone on a Friday evening expecting it to ring and expecting to hear her voice at the end”, he added.
