Dr Ellen Welch has written a book about why you find it so hard to see your doctor when you want to, and her conclusions will surprise you. In her twenty year experience as a Cumbrian GP, it's not just a lack of investment in general practice that is the cause, but also patients accessing the service when they don't need to. She calls them the Amazon Prime generation, who expect an answer to every medical question now, and she argues the NHS wasn't designed for that.
