Forty years at UK’s unique fire station
Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade is the country’s only station where its crew give up their time for free.
Formed in 1884, it currently has two crewed engines and operates as a private brigade, but under the direction of Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service.
Tony De Matteis spent nearly 40 years giving up his time at the station, many of them as chief officer.
Having recently retired he looks back at his time there.
