Suffolk mum’s Group B Strep screening plea
A mother from Suffolk is backing a campaign calling on the government to change its policy over Group B Strep infections – a virus that claimed the life of her two month old daughter.
Natalie Lockyer’s baby Quinn died in 2023 after developing GBS at five weeks.
She is now calling for routine screening for the virus and greater awareness.
Natalie has shared her story with Wayne Bavin.
A Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson said: “Our sympathies go out to the families affected.
“A public consultation on proposed amendments to the Health Protection (Notification) Regulations 2010 took place last year where respondents were asked if other diseases should be included as notifiable diseases.
“DHSC and UKHSA are considering the responses and confirmation of any changes will be published in due course.â€
