Horncastle flood report: What went wrong?
An official report by the Environment Agency into flooding in Horncastle in October 2023 says that it would have occurred even if part of the town’s flood defences hadn't failed.
197 properties were flooded during Storm Babet, with two months of rain falling in 24 hours - something the EA called 'a once in 1,000 years event'.
ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Look North environment correspondent Paul Murphy explains the findings of the report which concludes that even though a defence scheme wasn't working properly, the rainfall was so extreme it wouldn't have prevented floodwater from entering homes and business.
