'People looked at us and treated us very badly'
The waste pickers of Bengaluru recycle over 383 million kilos of solid waste a year – but they are not seen as heroes.
Indira started waste picking with her family in Bengaluru when she was 10 years old. She says, “There have been times when people were ready to hit me just because my bag touched them.”
