Film celebrates women banned for playing football
The England team were criticised for taking part in the 1971 World Cup in Mexico. As squad members Gill Sayell from Milton Keynes and Leah Caleb from Bedford remember, they were disbanded when they returned home and faced a ban imposed by the Women’s Football Association. Their story is now told in a new documentary, Copa 71, co-directed by James Erskine. Photo: The England Women's World Cup Squad 1971 reunite for the film preview. Getty Images.
