Manhole misery

Residents living on a busy stretch of Binley Road in Coventry say a number rattling manhole covers is making their lives a misery. There are at least six within 300 metres.

If living on a busy main road wasn't bad enough because of the flow of traffic day in, day out - imagine what that would be like every time vehicles go over loose manhole covers.

Well that's exactly what residents living on a stretch of Binley Road in Coventry say is making their lives a misery.

And it's not just one manhole cover - there are at least six between Church Lane junction and the Lidl supermarket as ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ CWR's Ushma Mistry has been finding out.

Claire Flavell, Warwickshire Waste Catchment Lead at Severn Trent, said: “We understand that the loose manhole covers must be a nuisance to residents in the Binley Road area. We have investigated and several of them are Severn Trent assets, but some are the responsibility of other organisations. Ìý

“We are in the process of scheduling works to replace our covers and we will get this done as quickly as possible.â€Ìý

Meanwhile, A Coventry City Council spokesperson said, “We are not responsible for manhole covers in this location. If we receive complaints about noisy manhole covers we pass them to the relevant utility company to deal with.
Ìý
“We haven’t received any requests from Severn Trent to undertake this work at this moment in time. However, we have contacted them to see if we can resolve this issue.
