Pensioners in Worcester feeling like 'prisoners'
The communal lift in Brookthorpe Close hasn't been working properly since last June.
'We feel like prisoners in our own homes'.
Those are the words of pensioners in Worcester - who say they can't get outside because of a broken lift - and it won't be sorted until next year.
The communal lift in Brookthorpe Close - where pensioners live in retirement flats - hasn't been working since last June, despite the fact many of the residents have mobility issues and can't use the stairs.
They've now been told it won't be fixed until 2025. Our reporter Tom Edwards went along to speak with residents.
We have contacted Platform Housing and they say:
"As part of our commitment to building safety, the lift at Brookthorpe Close in Warndon has been taken out of service as it is old, unreliable, and difficult to maintain."
"We are currently making arrangements for a new, modern and reliable passenger lift for residents and other users, to be installed."
"We apologise for the inconvenience this work will likely have on residents and have provided a stairlift for this interim period."
