Rick, who’s living in Dunstable, is appealing to the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Office to remove the tag. Rick, from Trinidad and Tobago, feared his life was in danger in 2023 and fled to the UK to claim asylum. UK authorities released him from detention after two months and fitted him with an electronic tag as part of a pilot scheme. Rick suspects an incident from his past may have played a part in that decision. In 2010, he says he was jailed in the USA for receiving stolen property and deported after completing a four-year sentence.
