Wareham Men's Shed faces 'out-of-the-blue' eviction
"We had no idea this was coming; there's been no consultation whatsoever."
Men's sheds aren't just spaces for men to practice their woodwork, but also somewhere for them to chat about what's going in life.
Wareham Men's Shed has been involved in a number of community projects across Dorset. Their nesting boxes for Weymouth SEA LIFE Centre's penguins and a towering totem pole at Blue Pool Nature Reserve are amongst their best known work.
The group is based at a site operated by Care Dorset, which has issued Wareham Men's Shed with an eviction notice, giving them three months to leave and find a new home. This has prompted much confusion and upset, not just from the members but also the local community.
Care Dorset has told us that "notice should not have given when it was" and, as a result, they're "pausing all matters relating to the issuing of the notice". They plan to meet with Wareham Men's Shed in the next couple of weeks to explore options for the future and say the group can be assured that no action will be taken in relation to their tenancy.
Chris Hockley is a committed member of Wareham Men's Shed and spoke to Steve Harris about the unexpected news.
