Manchester Corinthians: Film to honour the women who played football despite being banned
In 1949, women's football had been outlawed by the FA for almost 30 years.
But the ban didn’t stop a group of women called the Manchester Corinthians Ladies Football Club, who went from playing local matches to competing internationally.
75 years on, their story is to be told in a documentary film that’s being made by director Helen Tither.
Speaking to Felicity Hannah on 5 Live Drive, Helen said: “We want these women to be honoured while they can tell their own story”.
Helen is hoping the story of the Corinthians will inspire girls: “We just really want this to be spread far and wide for girls getting into the game to have those legends that they can name”.
