Max Whitlock: ‘Time is right to retire’
Three-time Olympic gold medallist Max Whitlock says he will retire from gymnastics after the Paris 2024 Games.
The 31-year-old, who was born in Hemel Hempstead and trains at the South Essex Gymnastic Club in Basildon, is Britain’s most successful gymnast – having claimed six Olympic medals in total.
He hopes to compete for a fourth medal in the pommel horse later this year, having claimed two golds and a bronze on the apparatus at the previous three Olympics.
But he says the time is right to bring his career to end after that.
