Hallie Clarke on hormone therapy: 'I knew who I was from a very young age’
The Big Brother contestant shares her gender transition experience.
Big Brother contestant Hallie Clarke started using puberty blockers and hormone therapy when she was 16.
She had waited two years to be seen by an NHS doctor and eventually made the decision to go private. Hallie says the treatment made her feel "so much more confident and comfortable in [her] own skin".
She was responding to the Cass Review into gender care , which found children have been let down by a lack of research and "remarkably weak" evidence on medical interventions. Dr Hilary Cass says we don’t know the long term impact of puberty blockers on brain development in adolescents.
Hallie said that the health of young people is a "top priority" - but that mental health is also important.
An NHS spokesperson said:
“The NHS has made significant progress towards establishing a fundamentally different gender service for children and young people – and will set out a full implementation plan following careful consideration of this final report.
