Herefordshire couple 'forced to use portaloos'

Meet Roger Sell and his fiancée Janet, who have had no working drainage in Marden since December.

They say their council has "given up" on the problem, and that their drains are so fill of silt they are having to take desperate measures to get by, with Portaloos in their garden, and begging neighbours to wash their clothes.

Our reporter Tom Edwards went to visit the couple.

Herefordshire Council told us in a statement that "we've had one of the wettest winters in decades, with ground across the country becoming heavily saturated" due to all the rainfall since last autumn.

The statement adds: "We have carried out work on the highway drainage system in Marden - however it’s identified that further work is needed to make longer-term improvements. This work is currently being planned."

We'll hold them to that.
