Famous Hereford soldier's medals to 'return home'
Discover how the community has helped saved the legacy of Corporal John Bertram Symonds, the county's most decorated soldier from the First World War.
Malcolm Boyden speaks to Andy Taylor, curator at the Herefordshire Light Infantry Museum, who helped secure the five medals bestowed to the former Aylestone Hill resident, when they went under the hammer in London.
Corporal Symonds was awarded the Military Medal in 1917, and was Mentioned in Despatches and picked up the Distinguished Conduct Medal in 1918. He lived in Tupsley and joined the Herefordshire Regiment after the outbreak of war in 1914.
