Eight-year-old’s dream comes true after reaching Everest base camp
Frankie McMillan and his mum Basia completed the nine-day trek to Mount Everest’s base camp to raise money for the Make A Wish Foundation.
Speaking to 5 Live Breakfast, Basia said her son “absolutely smashed it” and that she is “super proud”.
“We had to walk for nine days before we managed to get to the actual base camp and then another three days back. So it was a 12 day trek in high altitude and extreme temperatures”, she told 5 Live’s Rachel Burden.
Last year, Frankie, from west Cumbria, climbed Greece’s Mount Olympus to become what is believed to be the youngest Briton to reach its summit.
His biggest dream is to reach the top of Mount Everest but he said he’s still “a bit too small”, so will attempt to achieve this when he turns ten.
Watch and listen to Frankie’s motivating reasons for wanting to raise money for this charity.
