Affordable Food in Blurton want 'Use By' dates scrapped on fresh fruit, vegetables and salad and have started a petition to get food companies to take notice.

A Defra spokesperson said:
鈥淣obody wants to see good food go to waste 鈥� it harms our environment and is a needless waste of households鈥� money. That is why we are leading the global effort to reduce food waste with a commitment to halve it by 2030."

鈥淲e have worked closely with WRAP and the Food Standards Agency on guidance aimed to ensuring the most appropriate use is made of 鈥榰se by鈥� dates on food, helping people use food when it鈥檚 at its best and reduce waste.鈥�
