Should 'Use By' dates be scrapped?
Affordable Food in Blurton want 'Use By' dates scrapped on fresh fruit, vegetables and salad and have started a petition to get food companies to take notice.
A Defra spokesperson said:
“Nobody wants to see good food go to waste – it harms our environment and is a needless waste of households’ money. That is why we are leading the global effort to reduce food waste with a commitment to halve it by 2030."
“We have worked closely with WRAP and the Food Standards Agency on guidance aimed to ensuring the most appropriate use is made of ‘use by’ dates on food, helping people use food when it’s at its best and reduce waste.â€
