5 Live presenter takes part in experiment to boost memory and brain function
Rachel Burden does exercises to boost her memory and brain function.
Radio 5 Live Breakfast presenter Rachel Burden has been taking part in an experiment over the course of a month to try to boost her memory and brain function.
As part of 5 Live’s ‘Me, My Health And I’ series, she has been looking at the impact that menopause can have on brain function. Rachel met a team from Liverpool John Moores University who set this experiment and have been running tests on her memory.
Rachel has been doing a variety of brain exercises and also switched to a Mediterranean-style diet of fish and vegetables, along with eating less red meat and drinking less alcohol.
Dr Samantha Brooks, a reader of cognitive neuroscience in the school of psychology at Liverpool John Moores, told Rachel that the month-long challenge is the equivalent of going to the gym: “If you go for a couple of weeks, you will feel good. But if you leave it, you will get flabby again.â€
The experiment included several tests on memory recall which Rachel has also been doing multiple times a day at home…watch to see how she got on!
