A woman who saved her twin sister from a crocodile attack will receive a King's Gallantry Medal.

Georgia Laurie repeatedly hit the reptile in the face after it attacked Melissa while they were swimming in Mexico in June 2021.

The 31-year-old from Sandhurst told 蜜芽传媒 Radio 5 Live Breakfast that she went 鈥渟traight into a fight response".

鈥淵ou have a drive as humans to love and protect one another.鈥� Georgia said the attack was 鈥渧ery primal鈥�.

Melissa said: "It all happened very quickly. When I was bitten and dragged under water I thought ....'that's it I'm a goner'.鈥�

The twins were out swimming during a guided river tour in a lagoon near Puerto Escondido when the crocodile attacked.

They had travelled to Mexico to volunteer, work in animal sanctuaries and travel.

Both women were seriously hurt but survived after being treated in hospital.

Georgia says she plans to take her family with her when collecting her award.
