Chris Boardman: ‘It can be exhausting to be safe as a cyclist’
Causing death or serious injury by dangerous or careless cycling is set to become an offence, after the government agreed to a change in the law.
Government statistics show in 2022 there were an estimated 29,742 killed or seriously injured (KSI) casualties in the UK.
Gold Olympic medallist and Sport England Chair Chris Boardman tells 5 Live Breakfast the change “isn’t the thing we should be focusing on” and that he is “sad” the conversation isn’t around saving the lives of cyclist and pedestrians.
Chris’ mum, Carol, was hit and killed by a car in July 2016 after she fell off her bike: “I’m passionate [about] how we make our street safer,” he says.
