D-Day: 'It was noisy...it was frightening'
Events are taking place to mark 80 years since D-Day, where more than 150 thousand allied troops engulfed the beaches in Normandy.
D-Day was the largest military seaborne operation ever attempted, and marked the start of the campaign to liberate Nazi-occupied north-west Europe.
Arthur Thompson from Leicestershire was just 21 when he travelled out to Northern France in 1944 as part of the mission.
Arthur died in February 2022, and his family are allowing us to share his story to mark 80 years since the Normandy Landings.
Arthur shared his memories with Jo Hayward on the 75th anniversary in 2019.
