Was the weekend invented in Greater Manchester?
The weekend was invented in Greater Manchester in 1843 when Salford Lyceum Director and worker's rights activist Robert Lowes campaigned to win workers the right to leisure time on Saturday afternoons.
In 2024, this is celebrated with an annual festival.
