    Oxford’s ‘first ever dinosaur’
200 years ago, Oxford University geologist William Buckland published the first formal naming of a dinosaur – before the word ‘dinosaur’ even existed!
He described the species Megalosaurus to the Geological Society on 20 February 1824.
The fossils used in this description were found in Oxfordshire and are now held in the collections of Oxford University Museum of Natural History.
Dr Emma Nicholls is a Vertebrate Palaeontologist and Megalosaurus expert from the museum and spoke to Adam Ball about Oxford's dino history.
