Trish Balusa was “shocked” to return to “a ghetto” after the Big Brother House. Shire House, a former office block in Dallow Road, is subject to enforcement action by Luton Borough Council which claims it is an “unauthorised development” and should be demolished. Owners Devonhurst Investments Ltd has lodged an appeal and a decision is due to be made following a public inquiry. Trish was placed in Shire House with her six-year-old son, who has autism, by Westminster City Council in 2021. She appeared in Big Brother in 2023. The law firm acting on behalf of Devonhurst Lettings Limited, the landlord of Shire House said: “[Regarding mould] all our client’s flats have adequate ventilation, either mechanical or natural... What cannot be constantly controlled is tampering with the ventilation systems. Tenants are advised not to use the room to dry their clothes as this creates moisture and condensation… This is the primary cause of any mould and all reported instances of mould are dealt with by inspection and advisory comments issued to the tenants… All flats are fitted with a smoke alarm... If a tenant removes the alarm without our client’s knowledge, then there is very little our client can do unless they are made aware in their inspection visits.”
