Election Night Leicestershire, as it happened
Labour has won the general election by a landslide, with Sir Keir Starmer set to become the next prime minister. There have been shock results across the city and county. There are five new MPs, not necessarily in the seats anyone was expecting.
One of the biggest shocks in the country was the loss of Leicester south and the standing MP and minister Jonathan Ashworth.
Another surprise was the Conservative Party bucking national trends in Leicester East with their candidate Shivani Raja storming to victory. She becomes the first conservative since 1987 to take Leicester East.
This is the story of election night in our area.
