What is Leicester's 'July fortnight'?
Hundreds of families in Leicester began their summer holidays in 2024 at the start of the 'July fortnight'.
Whether it's Skegness, Yarmouth or somewhere further afield, Leicester's schools always seem to break up a few weeks before the rest of the country.
Leicester and Leicestershire's 'July fortnight' was born in the 1960s, thanks to a ballot held among the region's workers.
Local historian Jed Jaggard explained the origins of a unique local custom.
