Helena found inequalities in cancer support as a black woman
Helena Boyce runs "YOUbuntu" which delivers workshops, presentations, talks and guided discussions focused on important topics surrounding racism, diversity and inclusion in schools and organisations in Southampton.
Helena has been diagnosed with aggressive forms of breast cancer three times. She has been chatting to ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Solent's Sam Fraser about her experiences as a black woman undergoing cancer treatment.
A play about the experiences of black women with breast cancer, is being screened in Southampton, as part of Ethnic Minority Cancer Awareness Month. It's called: 'Unseen Unheard: The untold breast cancer stories of Black Women in the UK'. The play is based on the real stories of six women from the "Black Women Rising" cancer support project, that is seeking to address inequalities faced by black women undergoing cancer treatment.
