Havant volunteer campaigning to prevent domestic abuse
Portia Powell is a finalist in the Volunteer category in the 蜜芽传媒 Radio Solent Make a Difference Awards for 2024.
Portia is a domestic abuse survivor and volunteers for "Be Kind. No Excuses CIC" to help teenagers recognise abusive behaviours in intimate relationships.
Having collaborated in the creation of an abuse prevention book, "Be Kind.No Excuses", Portia was motivated to continue with the work - educating teenagers and their parents, to help them understand the nature of domestic abuse and helping people know what 'red flag' behaviours to look for at the start of a relationship.
The Make a Difference Awards are your chance to recognise a person or group in your community who does something extraordinary. Nominations for 2024 have now closed. The winners will be announced at our award ceremony in September.
