Beryl is a bike hire scheme implemented up and down the country, including East Dorset, Bournemouth, Poole and Eastleigh.

In partnership with Dorset Council, Beryl have launched the scheme in Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester. 121 bikes will be available to hire from 30 Beryl bays, located on various street corners and town squares, via the smartphone app.

The Council say that they hope the presence of the ebikes will encourage people to use them as an alternative to driving, reducing both the traffic and carbon emissions of the area.

Radio Solent's Steve Harris spoke to council representatives, along with local business owners who are concerned about the competition the scheme may bring.
