Hannah Cockroft wants Paralympic stars to be respected for more than ‘having a go’
Wheelchair racer Hannah Cockroft has put her support behind a movement designed to empower Paralympic athletes.
The “I won’t be participating at Paris 2024” campaign wants Paralympians to be seen as respected competitors as opposed to participants who are simply happy to be there.
The seven-time gold medallist told 5 Live Breakfast: “We’re not here to have a go. We don’t pop out of a box every four years and decide we want to get on a track.
“This is our day-to-day job. This is our passion. This is what we do. We work incredibly hard. The performances that people see here from me are 17 years of hard work.”
