Spike is a lurcher with cerebellar hypoplasia; he is also Mel's emotional support dog. Rescuing Spike inspired Mel to set up the charity Broken Souls Rescue in Coventry. The charity has rescued and rehomed more than 500 animals since it started back in 2016.
Spike and Mel are finalists for the Make a Difference Animal Award 2024.
