'The Fossil Hunter' is a new picture book written and illustrated by author Kate Winter. It follows Mary Anning's fossil discoveries in Lyme Regis, as she pioneered modern palaeontology in a world which dismissed her because of her gender.

'The Fossil Hunter' earned Kate The Klaus Flugge prize for the most exciting and promising newcomer to children鈥檚 picture book illustration. The judges describe it as a beautiful book and admired Winter鈥檚 observational skills.

Kate spoke to Radio Solent's Steve Harris the day after receiving the award.
