What to do if you spot a stranded whale?
At the beginning of October 2024, residents spotted a stranded pilot whale on a beach on the Isle of Wight.
Despite attempts to save the whale, it was put to sleep by a specialist vet. It was the latest in a spate of pilot whale deaths around the coast of southern England.
Dan Jarvis is director of Welfare and conservation at the British Divers Marine Life Rescue, he shared with Alun Newman which organisations to call and explains the potential reasons for the increase in incidents.
